October News

Dear Parents,

We are trying a new form of communication using our “Alert Now message broadcast system”.  This is the same system we use to send phone messages.  However, this email alert system only includes e-mails of families who have sent email information into school to be entered into NCWISE.  Some people may not be on the list, so help spread the word.  We will also be sending information through our phone system and Core teachers to get the word out if parents would like to get on this email list.

For future reference, this email will also be available for access on our website under quick links.

Here’s this week’s Alert Now e-mail:

**Core and Encore Progress reports should be coming home in student packets on Wednesday**

1)  Parents, did you know that you can listen to missed Alert Now phone messages by going to our website and retrieving them with the phone number that receives those messages?  Have you ever had an answering machine hang-up on the message or a person in your house accidentally hangs up on the call? This is a way for you to still get the information:
If you go to our SEMS website:   http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/sms  click on " Alert Now Phone Messages " on the left under quick links.  Input the phone number that ordinarily receives the messages, and it should pull up the voice message on your computer for you to listen :)  Messages will be stored for a minimum of 15 days and many times longer than that.

2) Online Bill Pay:  Our school is starting to offer payment for school-related items using Online Bill Pay.  Currently we have 7th grade trips available for payment, but will soon be posting other school fees that you can pay online.  There are many advantages to paying online including less chance of monies getting lost in transport. If you go to our School's website http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/sms , and look under Quick links you will find a link that says Online School Payments :

3)   Destiny Catalog/Missing Items available on-line:  Students are being taught to log in to their library account at school AND at home.  Soon they can see any debts they have such as unreturned textbooks, gym uniforms, cafeteria fees from last year, and library books.
  • Go to the SE Website and click on Media Center on the left,
  • Click on login in the upper right hand corner:
  • user name is their student number and password is their last name in all lower case letters.
  • Click on the "My info" tab at the top to see what the child has checked out, on hold and debts that are owed.

From our Police Officer, David Brown (dmbrown@wsfcs.k12.nc.us)

Effective October 1st, there will no longer be a Police Officer directing traffic at the main entrance to SEMS in the afternoon at dismissal time. Please keep this in mind and take extra care when exiting the parking lot onto Old Salem Rd.
There will still be officers at both the bus lot and main entrances in the morning. This change will only effect the afternoon dismissal. If everyone will proceed with as much care and diligence as you would normally drive, we should not have any major issues.

Parents, save this upcoming date: Tuesday, November 15, 2011

With all the news about the recession, what better time to attend our first annual “Family Financial Fitness night” on Tuesday November 15, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Southeast Middle School?     Experts in the fields of business and finance will be on hand to answer questions, and provide important information about personal finances.  More information will be forthcoming, but plan to attend if this topic interests you!

If you are receiving this email, and not a parent of a student at Southeast Middle School, please reply to this email and we will remove you from the list.

Sincerely,

John Downs, Technology Facilitator
